From Ideas to Impact: JA Ghana’s National Business Pitch Competition 2024 Sets the Stage for a Sustainable Future

JA Ghana’s National Business Pitch Competition (NBPC) 2024 wasn’t just an event—it was a powerful demonstration of innovation, ambition, and a shared commitment to a sustainable future. With 14 schools competing fiercely for the coveted title, this year’s competition highlighted the brilliance of young minds ready to tackle the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. Nine outstanding awards were on the line, but all eyes were on the coveted Company of the Year title, under the theme, “GREENOVATION. 

Setting the tone for the event, Abeiku Greene, Executive Director of JA Ghana, delivered an address that celebrated the ingenuity and accomplishments of the young entrepreneurs. “Through your business solutions, you have demonstrated a deep understanding of environmental sustainability and climate change—issues that are critical to our future,” he stated, reinforcing JA Ghana’s dedication to empowering young people to build fulfilling careers while championing innovation and environmental stewardship. He also emphasized the critical need to nurture a generation that sees problems as opportunities and isn’t afraid to tackle the hard issues that face our society. “At JA Ghana programs, we are instilling in young minds the belief that they can create, innovate, and solve difficult problems

The event was marked by an inspiring keynote speech from Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Ghana, H.E. Charles Abani, whose words resonated deeply with everyone present. “We find ourselves at a pivotal point in history, Climate Change is no longer a vague threat but a pressing reality that demands immediate action.” he shared, capturing the spirit of the event’s theme. His speech emphasized the urgent need for the youth to get involved in the fight to save the planet through continued innovation and environmental stewardship, reinforcing the importance of youth-led initiatives in shaping a sustainable future. 

The competition itself was a showcase of green innovation. From renewable energy solutions to sustainable agricultural practices, the students’ pitches were not only competitive but transformative. Each idea presented brought a fresh perspective, leveraging technological expertise and a deep commitment to addressing climate change. 

As the event reached its climax, the tension was palpable. The awards ceremony highlighted the incredible talent on display, with Archbishop Porter Girls’ Secondary School from Takoradi emerging as the Company of the Year, impressing the judges with their groundbreaking work in a solar-powered irrigation system. Krobo Girls Senior High School took second place, while Legacy Girls College secured third place, all schools showcasing impactful solutions that underscored the depth of the talent present in the competition. “Winning this competition is an incredible honour,” said Kezia Nhyria Ayensu, the team leader.  

The National Business Pitch Competition 2024 has once again proven to be a powerful platform for nurturing young talent and advancing green innovation. As participants return to their communities and schools, they carry with them the spirit of Greenovation and a steadfast commitment to making a positive impact on the environment.  

Ghana, Africa, and the world now await the lasting impact of these pioneering ideas and the contributions of the next generation of environmental leaders.
