Cha-Ching is a financial literacy program about six band members whose thrilling adventures teach them about key money concepts – Earn, Save, Spend, and Donate. It is delivered to primary school students and aims to provide students with knowledge on personal finance and its applications, expose students to the smart money concepts of earn, save, spend, and donate, and also provide students with a solid foundation for financial independence. In addition to the Cha-Ching Program is the Cha-Ching Money Show which airs every Saturday at 9:30 am on Ghanaian TV Channel GNTV Junior.
Cha-Ching has 6 episodes of one-hour lessons designed to be delivered once a week. As a teacher-led session, each of the six lessons is structured as follows;
- 10-minute lesson video
- 20-minute facilitation and class discussions
- 20-minute group activities
- 10-minute lesson recap
- Take-home activity for further discussion with parents/ guardians
At the end of the lessons, the Cha-Ching Money Bee Quiz is organized between participating schools to culminate the 6 weeks of hands-on, student-centered Cha-Ching sessions.
Outcome and Impact
Since its inception in 2016, a total of 10,483 students have been reached in 129 public and private schools across 4 Regions; Northern, Volta, Greater Accra, and Eastern Regions. Out of the total students reached, 51% are males and 49% are females, targeting Primary 4 & 5 pupils between 8-14 years.
